I am a freeholder of a house on an estate, why do I still pay a fee to Principle?

Principle

Last Update 3 years ago

After a new housing estate is built, local authorities do not always take on responsibility for the shared areas of the estate, so the developer will appoint a managing agent such as Principle to manage these areas. The cost of these services are covered by an estate charge - without a managing agent, the common areas of your estate would not be maintained.

Depending on the requirements of the estate, services can include:

  • the maintenance of any roads not adopted by the local authority
  • gardening and cleaning of common areas
  • maintenance of external lighting
  • maintenance and safety checks of any equipment such as play areas
