What is ground rent and why do I have to pay it?

Principle

Last Update 3 years ago

If you are a leaseholder, you may be obliged under the terms of your lease to pay a rental charge to the Freeholder owner of your development - this is usually called ground rent.

The ground rent payment is for the land upon which the property is built and for the rights of access across any communal gardens and surrounding areas owned by the Freeholder.
