My sale is likely to complete before the end of the current service charge demand period. Should I still make payment?

Yes. Please ensure that you continue to make your service charge payments in full as and when they are due. Your solicitor will carry out an apportionment based on your sale date to ensure that you are reimbursed for any payment made for a period you no longer own the property.

For example, if you receive your service charge demand on 1st January which covers the period 1st January – 30th June but you are in the process of selling your property, you should still make this payment in full. If your sale then completes on 1st March, you will receive a refund for the period 1st March – 30th June as your solicitor will ensure that the new owner covers this period.

Please discuss this with your solicitor if you are unsure.
